Motherhood is an incredible journey filled with unexpected turns, blessings, and challenges. After experiencing loss and raising two children, the thought of starting over after 9 years was overwhelming. The questions, the fears, and the uncertainties loomed over me. I wondered if I had the energy to do it all over again. Was I ready to face the rollercoaster of emotions that come with bringing another new life into the world?
Yet something greater than myself knew I had room in my heart for one more blessing. This year, that blessing turned 3 years old. And as I look at my sweet boy, I realize just how much I needed him, my pleasant surprise. He came at a time when I thought that chapter of my life had closed. Yet, in his smile, his laughter, and the joy he brings, I found a new beginning.
A Scary, Yet Beautiful Journey
This was my fourth time walking the path of motherhood. I’ve been blessed with three living children and one angel baby. After facing loss and navigating the pain that came with it, the thought of starting over was terrifying. I had already walked through the heartache of losing my firstborn, miscarriages and experienced the physical and emotional toll of struggling with pregnancy. Could I really open myself up to this journey again? The fear was real, but so was the hope.
With each passing day of my pregnancy, I leaned into faith. I learned to trust the process, believing that this child was meant to be here, in this world, and in my life. The fears never completely faded, but they were outweighed by something more powerful: love. A love so deep that it pushed me through the doubts and uncertainty.
A Blessing I Didn’t Know I Needed
Sometimes, life surprises you in ways you could never have imagined. For me, that surprise came wrapped in the form of my little boy. He’s reminded me that motherhood doesn’t have an expiration date, and that joy can re-enter your life even when you least expect it.
He’s brought light into places where darkness once dwelled. He’s given me the chance to experience the wonder of motherhood all over again, to relive the moments of baby giggles, toddler steps, and endless curiosity. In so many ways, he’s been a reminder that life’s greatest gifts often come when we’re not looking for them.
Embracing the Gift of Now
As I reflect on these past three years, I realize that motherhood the fourth time around feels different, yet somehow more precious. I’m more present, more grateful, and more intentional with my time. Every milestone feels like a victory, and every small moment is a reminder of how far I’ve come.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that life has its own timing. It may not always be what we planned, but sometimes it’s exactly what we need. Starting over after 9 years was one of the scariest decisions I’ve made, but it has also been one of the most beautiful. My boy is proof that even after loss, there is life. Even after pain, there is joy.
For those who are feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or scared about the idea of starting over—whether it’s with motherhood or another chapter in life—know that it’s okay to be afraid. It’s okay to feel the weight of uncertainty. But also know that there is beauty on the other side of that fear. Sometimes, the blessings we didn’t know we needed are waiting for us in the moments we least expect.
