What’s a topic or issue about which you’ve changed your mind?
For years, I thought self-care was something reserved for when I had extra time—a luxury to indulge in after all the “important” tasks were taken care of. I saw it as something optional, a reward for getting through my never-ending to-do list. But over time, I’ve come to realize that self-care isn’t just a treat; it’s a necessity.

From Optional to Essential
The shift in my thinking happened slowly. As life’s challenges continued to pile up—stress from work, family responsibilities, personal struggles—I found myself feeling drained more often than not. I pushed through because I believed that’s what I was supposed to do. However, what I didn’t see was that constantly operating on empty wasn’t sustainable. Something had to change, and that something was me.
I began to notice that the more I neglected myself, the harder it became to handle even the simplest tasks. I wasn’t showing up as my best self for my family, my work, or even for me. It was in those low moments that I started to rethink what self-care really meant. Was it indulgence, or was it something far more critical?
What Self-Care Really Means
I had to reframe the way I looked at self-care. It’s not just about spa days or vacations (though those are great too!). It’s about carving out time for the things that recharge you mentally, emotionally, and physically, even in the midst of your busy life. For me, it became about recognizing when I needed rest, when I needed quiet, and when I needed to do things purely for my own well-being.
By investing in yourself, you can give more to others. I changed my mind about self-care—and it’s been a game-changer.
Don’t Stop. Don’t Settle. Keep Stepping.
